Southeastern Move-In Weekend 2026: Local Tips for New Lions and Their Families

Welcome to Hammond, Lions.

Move-in weekend is the moment when weeks of lists, shopping, packing, and planning finally become real. The room is new, the roommate may be new, and for many families, Hammond is about to become a second home.

Our Mom’s started in Hammond in 2010, so welcoming new Lions is personal to us. We have watched generations of Southeastern students discover the city, meet their people, and build a life here. When the last box is down—or when everyone simply needs a break—we would love to welcome your family to our table.

Here is what Southeastern residents should know for fall 2026.

When is Southeastern Move In Mane-ia in 2026?

Southeastern’s official on-campus move-in experience is scheduled for:

• Saturday, August 15: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

• Sunday, August 16: Noon–5 p.m.

• Late check-in: Monday, August 17, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. at the University Housing office in Pride Hall

• First day of fall classes: Wednesday, August 19

All weekend residents must first check in at the Pennington Student Activity Center, 1350 N General Pershing Street, and must have a scheduled appointment. Southeastern does not allow after-hours check-in.

Review the latest instructions on the official Move In Mane-ia page (https://www.southeastern.edu/admin/housing/move-in-mane-ia/) before leaving home.

Information verified August 10, 2026. Southeastern may revise schedules or procedures, so check the official page and the student's Southeastern email before traveling.

What students need before checking in

Southeastern requires residents to have several things settled before receiving their room key:

1. Schedule the appointment through the Housing Portal. Students should retain the confirmation email.

2. Bring the Southeastern ID. Students collecting a new or replacement card must show a government-issued photo ID or LA Wallet.

3. Register for at least 12 credit hours. Housing residents must meet the university’s full-time registration requirement.

4. Resolve the student account. Fees must be paid, covered by posted financial aid, or handled through the approved payment-plan requirements.

5. Follow the assigned check-in time. This reduces traffic and keeps the Pennington Center and residence-hall unloading zones moving.

Assignments not claimed by the end of the first day of classes on August 19 may be canceled as no-shows, so students facing a delay should contact University Housing promptly.

Southeastern’s most useful packing tips

The university’s list contains several details that can save families an unnecessary shopping trip:

• Residence-hall beds use Twin XL sheets; apartment beds are full-size.

• Contact the roommate before shopping to prevent duplicate appliances and shared items.

• Bring a refillable water bottle, umbrella or rain jacket, flashlight, first-aid kit, insurance card, prescription medication, and a small lockbox.

• A small fan, air purifier, dehumidifier, or moisture-absorbing product can help with South Louisiana humidity.

• Use surge protectors. Major appliances must plug directly into the wall.

• Bring a shower caddy, shower shoes, toilet plunger, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, and garbage bags.

• Curtains may be hung only with a tension rod.

Ascension, Twelve Oaks, and Southeastern Oaks already include a refrigerator and microwave. Southeastern warns that bringing duplicate appliances can create electrical problems.

Permitted automatic-shutoff appliances include certain coffee makers, crockpots, rice cookers, and air fryers without a pressure-cooking feature. Pressure cookers, hot plates, toasters, appliances with exposed heating elements, space heaters, candles, incense, adhesive LED strips, Command hooks, mounting tape, and extension cords are prohibited.

Because housing rules can change and the prohibited list is not exhaustive, check the current Southeastern move-in guidance (https://www.southeastern.edu/admin/housing/move-in-mane-ia/) before purchasing anything questionable.

Use the pedestrian tunnel on University Avenue

Southeastern University Police directs students to use the pedestrian tunnel beside the Pennington Center when crossing University Avenue. Do not attempt to cross through moving traffic outside a designated crossing.

The university’s safety reminder is simple: look both ways, make eye contact with drivers, obey signs and signals, never assume a driver will yield, use the tunnel, and put away phones and headphones while crossing.

That advice matters even more during move-in, when unfamiliar drivers, full vehicles, pedestrians, and unloading traffic all arrive at once.

Document the space before boxes cover it

Before unloading a residence-hall room or apartment, complete a room-condition walkthrough while every surface and provided item is visible. Take wide photographs and close-ups of the walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, furniture, fixtures, and appliances. Record stains, scratches, dents, water damage, worn finishes, missing pieces, and previous repairs.

Safely test the keys and locks, lights, outlets, plumbing, air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, and other provided equipment. Do not use anything that appears damaged. Submit every concern through the university or property's official inspection or maintenance process before its deadline, then keep the original photos or video, submitted report, and confirmation for the full housing or lease term. This creates a clear record of the condition the student received and makes maintenance follow-up easier.

Moving into an apartment near Southeastern?

Off-campus communities do not follow the university’s residence-hall check-in schedule. Students moving into University Crossing, Lions Gate, Waypoint at Hammond, College Town Apartments, St. Tropez, The Creeks, The Waters at Hammond, or another private property should use the instructions supplied by that community.

Before loading the car, confirm:

• The lease start date and key-pickup window

• The correct leasing office or after-hours procedure

• Parking permits, guest parking, and towing rules

• Whether stairs, elevators, or unloading spaces must be reserved

• Utility, Wi-Fi, and renter’s-insurance requirements

• The move-in inspection and damage-report deadline

• Package-delivery rules

Do not rely on a verbal report. Use the property's official inspection or maintenance process and save the confirmation.
